Lee Blackwood. A lifelong resident of Chapel Hill, Robert Lee
Blackwood passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, March 19,
2007. He was 84 years old. Mr. Blackwood had strong ties to this
community, with his family having lived here for many generations.
Mr. Blackwood attended UNC-CH after serving in the U.S. Army during
WW II. He received the Air Medal, after flying 50 missions, and
retired from the Air Force Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1982.
He, along with his brother Milton, worked at the post office for 46 years. He retired in 1986 as the Assistant Postmaster of Chapel Hill. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Blackwood was a proud family man, who served his country and his community.
