George M. Walker
George M. Walker, 90, Chapel Hill, passed away Jan. 20, 2009, at home.
Mr. Walker was born in Gorham, N.H., on May 20, 1918, the son of John M. and Susie (Hammond) Walker.
He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in the 3rd Division of the 8th Air Force. He held the rank of Sgt. Major and was a member of the 486th Bomb Group.
George came to us from the northeast as he lived in Greenwich, Conn., after the war and moved to Exeter, N.H., in 1964. He worked as a carpenter for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1974. George also operated a garage door business in Exeter, N.H.
George moved to Chapel Hill in 2007 to be with his son, John, and family.
Members of the family include his son John M. Walker II and wife Michaela of Chapel Hill; daughter Candice Mercier and husband Denis of Limoges, Ontario, Canada; four grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Dorianna (LaChance) Walker.
