T/Sgt Carey V. Cummings, US Army Air Force

Carey V. Cummings was a native of High Point, North Carolina.  He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1929.

Carey was an athlete and a member of the UNC Boxing Team.  He won the Southern Conference Lightweight title.  His gloves are on display in the UNC Memorabilia Case at Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill.

He Married Miss Katherine Crowder in 1932 and went off to war ten years later. When the war ended, he returned to North Carolina and settled in Chapel Hill.

Upon his death, he and his wife provided an endowment to the Post to fund operations and to seed a fund for the building of a permanent post in the Chapel Hill area.
