Memorial Day Events

8:00 a.m.         Morning Colors service at the Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery. 

9:30  a.m.        Open House - American Legion Post site opens for visitors

11:00 a.m.       Memorial Day Ceremony -                          Inside main building.

 12:00 noon      Hot Dogs and cool drinks (no cost to public, donations accepted)

 1:00 p.m.         The Village Band Performs  

 2:00 p.m.         Local Law Enforcement and Fire Department demonstrations

 3:00 p.m.         National Moment of Remembrance.  A three minute moment of silence  at the Flagpole.

Event hosts and sponsors

The food for this event is prepared by Chapel Hill Boy Scout Troop 835 located at Amity United Methodist Church..  This is a repeat project for the troop, as they served lunch and used their mobile field kitchen in 2009.  The Veterans of Foreign Wars greatly appreciates they assistance and their use of Vietnam era military vehicles and field kitchen.

The Post also thanks Chapel Hill Magazine for funding the cost of food.  We appreciate their generosity and this is their third year of supporting this event.

American Legion Post 6 is providing the cool drinks for our event and has about 500 bottles of ice cold water ready for our guests.  We thank them for their generosity and use of their beautiful Post for this special event.

A special thanks to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9100.  Your local VFW Post 9100 is funding all other costs for this event including grave marker flags, Post decorative flags, children's Bouncy Dragon, decorations and all other expenses for this event.  This continues a long tradition of honoring our veterans on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
